JOB TITLE: Respiratory Therapist Contractor
Part-time 10–15 hours/week

The Respiratory Therapist (Contractor) supports the accuracy and integrity of spirometry and pulmonary function testing (PFT) data within MERIT clinical studies. This role ensures high-quality respiratory data collection while maintaining compliance with study protocols, regulatory requirements, and internal standards.
The contractor accurately and competently reviews spirometry and PFTs conducted by study site personnel, prepares training materials, and delivers training sessions for sites, sponsors, and MERIT staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.)
- Conduct regular reviews of respiratory testing procedures and results; identify trends or issues in data capture; and recommend corrective actions to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Review spirometry and pulmonary function tests to confirm compliance with training documentation and adequacy of study data and techniques.
- Prepare training materials and support training sessions for clinical sites, sponsors, and MERIT staff on proper testing techniques and procedures via teleconferences, computer-based modules, and on-site visits.
- Update and maintain educational resources and documentation for respiratory testing, ensuring alignment with current standards, technologies, and best practices.
- Supporting quality assurance by monitoring testing practices and escalating concerns as needed.
- Assist in maintaining staff certifications and staying current with advances in respiratory testing technologies and practices.

Education and Experience:
- BA or BS degree in healthcare, respiratory care, nursing or related field from a four year college or university is required.
- A minimum of 3 years related experience and/or training in reviewing spirometry and pulmonary function tests, preferably in a health care or service related environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, ability to follow direction, assess company needs and work independently. Computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Office software and ability to learn company specific software. Must be able to project a professional attitude and image appropriate for the work environment.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to participate and contribute in a team environment as a team member or in a leadership role. Oral and written communication is clear, concise, and effective. Ability to maintain neutral approach when resolving conflicts and utilize the Human Resources area as a resource.
This position requires a flexible work schedule with occasional on-call availability to meet the demands of ongoing clinical trials. While core working hours will be established, there may be times when weekend or after-hour work is necessary to ensure the smooth execution and timely completion of study tasks.
Licenses or Certifications Required: Two- or four-year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy Program or completion of requirements to become registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
