MERIT Employee Spotlight:
Catherine Chintala

Catherine Chintala, PMP
Director of Operations, Oncology

MERIT Employee Spotlight is a series featuring team members introducing themselves, outlining their role at MERIT, and explaining why they chose to work in the clinical trials industry.

What do you do at MERIT?

My role at MERIT is Director of Operations for the Oncology team, and I lead the project management and imaging operations aspects of this therapeutic area. I collaborate with our internal departments, from Medical Affairs to Data Management, and help to ensure that things run smoothly for our studies.

At MERIT, we collaborate closely with our Sponsors and part of my role is sharing expertise and knowledge with our biotech and pharma partners, especially if they are new to working with a core lab and central reading. It is so rewarding to interact with the clinical sites and to help our sponsors meet their goals!

What do you like about working at MERIT?

My coworkers are an amazing group of people! We are always willing to help each other and collaborate daily, whether we are in the same state or another country. I love being at a company where you can approach someone at any level–even our CEO–and get a quick response. Being able to work at home helps to promote a good work-life balance, and I look forward to industry conferences where I can meet face-to-face with fellow team members and our Sponsors.

Why did you get into clinical research?

I started in data management over 20 years ago at a large CRO. Prior to that, I didn’t know much about clinical trials, but I immediately enjoyed working in the industry. I found it interesting and fast-paced, and I loved the idea of helping get new drugs to market. I have extensive experience in clinical operations and project management, with a focus on Phase I-III oncology clinical trials in a variety of indications. I have worked at some great companies and made wonderful connections over the years, and am fortunate to work in an industry that helps in the fight against cancer. Advancing treatment options and helping patients is our ultimate goal!

What do you do in your free time?

I am originally from the Philadelphia, PA area, but now call North Carolina home with my husband and two daughters. When I’m not at a swim meet or cheer competition, you can find me spending time with my family, or volunteering at our church or with Girl Scouts. I love hiking, history, and travel. This past year we welcomed the newest member of our family, a 4-lb yorkie named Dior. She loves sharing an office with me, and she occasionally makes an appearance on team calls!
