MERIT Employee Spotlight is a series featuring team members introducing themselves, outlining their role at MERIT, and explaining why they chose to work in the clinical trials industry.
What is your role at MERIT?
As a Content Developer with MERIT’s Marketing Department, I write and edit all kinds of short- and long-form content, from website articles to white papers to press releases. Also, as part of the larger Marketing, Contracts, and Partnership Management team, I draft proposals in response to RFPs from Sponsors and CRO partners. I also develop responses for Requests for Information and Vendor Questionnaires.
What do you like about working at MERIT?
I love the variety of the types of writing and editing that I get to provide, and that I’m always learning about new advances in clinical research. I enjoy creating informative content that communicates our services and solutions to Sponsors and partners. It’s also great to be part of a fantastic team that is always appreciative of my efforts.
How do you see your position fitting into the company as a whole?
I see Marketing’s role, and my role as Content Developer, as supporting the public face of MERIT. Through our website and social media presence, as well as our support of MERIT’s trade show and conference attendance, we maintain and increase MERIT brand awareness.
Why did you get into clinical research?
I have always enjoyed working as a writer and editor, but when I found my first role as a medical writer providing clinical reports and protocols, I loved the feeling of contributing to clinical research. I’m very proud of the small role that I played in moving forward new treatments for patients.
What do you do in your free time?
I reside in Iowa City, and I’ve been a Hawkeye women’s basketball fan since long before Caitlin Clark. Besides following the Hawks, I enjoy cooking, reading, walking, gardening, and traveling, especially visiting family. I love spending time with my kids and grandkids and my wife, Marlys. Whenever I get too busy, our two cats inspire me to slow down.
