Xiangrun Huang

Xiangrun Huang, PhD
Director, Clinical Data Management

MERIT Executive Spotlight is a series featuring executive team members introducing themselves and explaining why they chose to work in the clinical trials industry and at MERIT.

What is your role at MERIT?

I oversee MERIT’s data management team, leading departmental initiatives to improve quality processes, implement data quality control plans, and monitor department KPIs to measure work quality and operational efficiencies.

What is your area of expertise in ophthalmology?

I have extensive expertise in examining optical properties of ocular tissues and developing optical instruments. I also have experience in mathematical/physical modeling of experimental data and investigating damage mechanisms in optic nerve neuropathic diseases.

What do you like about working at MERIT?

As soon as I joined MERIT, I was impressed by the culture here. Our team members support each other and often jump in to offer help when needed. We work hard to meet sponsors’ deadlines while ensuring data accuracy and completeness. I’ve also had a great time collaborating with other teams at MERIT. Everyone is committed to ensuring data management meets sponsors’ requirements and data transfers are executed with quality and on time.

What role does Data Management play at MERIT?

Effective data management is essential for ensuring the quality, integrity, and success of clinical trials. Our team plays a pivotal role in providing such services to our Sponsors.

An important aspect of our team’s work is developing and implementing data transfer agreements (DTAs). We execute strict DTA verification to ensure that the data produced by our team is complete and accurate. Once this process is complete, we deliver data in accordance with Sponsor timelines. Another key role we play is working with image reading centers to implement data review plans (DRPs), which examine the reliability and consistency of image reading.

What activities do you enjoy outside of work?

I love spending time with my family in the States and China. I enjoy cooking, reading, and painting with soft pastels and watercolors. I also find joy working in my home garden, as well as swimming when the weather permits. I love to take walks with my friends on weekends.
